Testimonials - Oral Surgery

I was in discussion with my doctor about surgery to correct some problems resulting from the cancer I had when I was a child. He informed me that hyperbaric oxygen therapy was necessary in preparation for surgery due to the high amounts of radiation I was exposed to. He was afraid the capillaries and blood vessels in my mouth would not support a major operation.

After 20 sessions I had my surgery, which included removing bone from my hip and inserting it into my upper jaw for reconstruction and sinus lifts. My doctor told me afterwards that the therapy had done exactly what it was supposed to do. It greatly increased the blood flow to my mouth, which allowed the operation to be performed, I also underwent 10 sessions after my surgery, which greatly increased my healing process. I was walking without assistance 4 days after bone was taken out of my hip and was eating solid food a week after the bone was put into my jaw. And one of the best things about it all, my insurance covered 100% of the hyperbaric therapy.

I was skeptical at first about the therapy because I really didn’t know much about it. The staff at HHI were very helpful and caring, and made my treatments enjoyable. There was never a time when I felt uncomfortable or had unanswered questions.

I am looking forward to retuning to HHI for therapy before my next surgery.

Testimonials - Surgery Recovery

I dislocated my hip 13 years ago during pregnancy.  As a result, I developed severe osteoarthritis.  Four years ago, my back and hip pain increased.  I went to an orthopedic physician who suggested a hip replacement as soon as possible.  At 40, I was determined a hip replacement was not in my near future.

My quality of life significantly decreased in 2006. I began limping through 12 hour shifts in the ER as a nurse practitioner, basically quit the gym, tried to walk as little as possible at my children’s activities, and was told by the doctor I would never go back to my beloved Tae Kwon Do.  I finally decided to have hip replacement surgery done June 11 2007.

I was talking to Lisa Diester about a week before surgery, and she suggested HBOT.   I understood the benefits of the increased oxygen therapy to wound healing, and discussed this with my surgeon, Dr. Gardiner.  He was very supportive of the idea, quoting studies on its benefits post surgery and its use with athletes.

The day after I was released from the hospital, I limped into the chamber.  I progressed from walker to walking alone the first week, and up to a mile, at my two week check.  Needless to say, my doctor was thrilled!  I completed approx. 15 treatments, and returned to the doctor in 8 weeks.  I was his poster child!  I was the only patient who was working out at the YMCA, riding a bike, swimming, walking 2 miles at a time.  The x-ray showed bone growth at 8 weeks equivalent to 6 months growth.  I was released to do just about anything except hard running and jumping, but most importantly I can go back to modified Tae Kwon Do!!!!

At 9 weeks I am working 8 hour shifts in the ER.  A testimonial to the stamina from the HBOT, and will go back at 12 weeks to 12 hour shifts.  My quality of life has significantly increased.  I can almost keep up with my four children.  And we have to mention the scar, if you have to have one, it is healing beautifully.

As a nurse practitioner I knew about the benefits of HBOT, however as a recipient I would tell anyone the healing time and success after surgery is extreme.  My physical actions speak louder than words.  Without HBOT and my antioxidant supplements I am convinced I would not be nearly as far along!!!!  Thank you Lisa and Dave.                                    Lezlee P.
